Interview with Daniel López, Co-Founder of Bitnami
i4: Tell us about where do you work and what is your position.
Daniel Lopez, cofounder of Bitnami
i4: What is the thing you like most about working in eCommerce?
Bitnami provides one-click application deployment to the cloud. Ecommerce is just one of the many application categories that we support. I particularly like it because it is one that can take advantage of the elasticity that the cloud can provide, helping companies better deal with peaks in demand and customize the number and type of servers as their needs change.
i4: Within the eCommerce universe, tell us whom do you know and what would you highlight from them?
Daniel: We are big fan of open source software like Prestashop, Spree, and of course Magento. It makes it possible to customize every aspect of the store and integrate with other systems, like ERP or analytics software. Proprietary or SaaS software are sometimes more convenient but seldom provide this opportunity for customization.
i4: Regarding the news and changes happened in the last year in the eCommerce universe, can you tell us which ones do you think are the most relevant or interesting.
Daniel: The abrupt End Of Life of Magento Go has left a lot of people looking for alternative solutions. There are also several upstarts in the open source eCommerce space that, although still in the initial phases, show promise and are easier to deploy and extend than current platforms.
i4: If you could give an advice to anyone starting an online store, what would it be?
Daniel: Think very carefully what your differentiation factors will be and how you will reach your customers. Most eCommerce software right now is powerful enough for common use cases, so the real challenge is in driving users to the store and converting them into customers
i4: What could you tell us about the future of your company? Which are your future steps/goals?
Daniel: We have over 100 server applications and we are adding new ones at a rapid pace. If there’s a particular one we are missing and you would like to see packaged, let us know!
i4: And the tricky question… What do you think about interactiv4?
Daniel: Interactiv4’s team combines both in-depth industry knowledge and highly qualified technical talent. It is difficult to find either on its own, so the combination is even rarer. I can’t think of anybody else I would recommend for critical ecommerce projects. Plus, they are fun to work with!
